In 2022, The Balanced Man retreat was founded out of a deep desire to create a space where men could freely express themselves in authentic ways among brothers. It was a response to the need for a pause from our hectic lives, a time to reflect on who we are and how we want to show up in the world for ourselves and those we care about.
To individually ask the question, “What does it mean to be a man?” This isn’t a prescription handed down by others. It’s a journey of self-discovery, free from the distractions of daily life and societal norms.

Terry Bullman is a mentor, coach, and world champion athlete who has dedicated his life to helping individuals reconnect with their inner strength and sense of purpose. After years of training and competing at the highest levels in martial arts, Terry discovered the transformative power of holotropic breathwork, which opened his eyes to the incredible healing potential of the mind and body.
This personal breakthrough led him to shift his focus toward working with men who are seeking deeper fulfillment, balance, and healing in their lives. Through his retreats, mentorship programs, and the creation of the 3B Initiative, a non-profit dedicated to supporting men in need, as well as women and children who have been victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and or human trafficking, Terry has become a guiding force for those looking to grow emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
At the core of his work is a deep commitment to creating a safe, supportive space for men to challenge themselves, confront their emotions, and build a strong sense of community. Whether through breathwork, physical training, or personal mentorship, Terry's mission is to empower men to live more authentically and courageously.
Ahren Cadieux is a former professional beach volleyball player who spent 14 years representing Canada on the world tour. After retiring from the sport, Ahren channeled his creativity into founding New Republic Design House, a creative agency focused on innovative design strategies. His passion for design has allowed him to explore new avenues and build something meaningful beyond the court.
Despite stepping away from competition, Ahren’s connection to beach volleyball remained strong. He transitioned into coaching, dedicating his time to mentoring aspiring Olympians. Through coaching, he not only helped athletes sharpen their skills but also guided them in embracing the life lessons that the sport uniquely has to offer. It was during this time that Ahren discovered the transformative power of men’s work. His involvement deepened as he co-lead men's circles, witnessing firsthand the profound impact these spaces have on personal growth, connection, and leadership.
Now living full-time in Costa Rica, Ahren is dedicated to expanding The Balanced Man retreats, striving to make these experiences accessible to men around the world.
